Introduction(Thesis)

Love relationships are on the basis of the people involved and the context of their time. The nature of texts based on love relationship is heavily influenced by the composer and the context of their time which reflects the nature o f the relationship. In Elizabeth Barret Browning 's "Sonnets from the Portugese" the love portrayed is based on a real relationship showing all aspects linked to it in a Victorian context. In Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby", an idealised love is projected but through the context of the American Dream it undermines decays this so called "idealised love".
May I try making this clearer?

Love relationships have been the subject of many texts. These texts are shaped by the composer's personal context and the values of the world around them. EBB's "Sonnets from the Portuguese", published in 1846, portray a love that is based on a real relationship and is influenced by the conventions and values of Victorian England. F Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby was composed in 1924 during the Jazz Age in America. This love is based on the projected ideal of Daisy Buchanan but the prospect of real love is undermined by the values of a corrupted American Dream.

Authentic love based on real and personal relationship can be ahown to be pure and ideal through trust and acceptance. This can be seen Through Browning's personal love experience and the Victorian context around her the sonnets. [are expressed.] In the Victorian era, the rights of women regarding marriage was quite restrictive. There was also [and] added pressure from her controlling father who did not allow for her secret relationship with Robert, a man six younger than her. [to be expressed publicly]. (not quite right. He did not allow it - full stop) Through her sonnets, Browning expresses a love full of spiritual passion and sexual desires that [it] would provoke the morals of her context and so was [it is] disguised as " Sonnets from the Portugese" . In sonnet I, Browning's own personal doubts about love are projected through the sonnet stating "Those sweet, sadyears, melancholy years,.." but through sthe end she expresses that she has not lost hope that she can find love as shown where it stated "Not Death, but Love". In sonnet XXI, the feelings and emotions experienced from love is expressed through Browning's authentic feeling. Love is something that is yearned for without insecurities thus Browning depicting the the imagery of the "cuckoo song" and "Though the word repeated" to highlight the honesty and trust. Browning's feelings are very thoroughly and shown to be straightforward in this sonnet where quotes such as "Say thou dost love me, love me, love me" express this. Through these sonnets we can see Browning's authenticity of love presented in these sonnets through own personal experiences of hope, trust and also doubts.
